Looking to buy your first Jeep Wrangler? Or maybe you're on your third or fourth? Whatever the case, there are a number of different places available for you to get your Jeep fix. Most people think the dealership is the only option for buying a reliable Wrangler, but in today’s day and age, there are many more options than there has been in the past. In today’s blog from our team at TopLift Pros, we are going to talk about some of the best places you can buy yourself a nice Wrangler and join the friendly and exciting Jeep community.
Generally, when people are thinking about buying a car, the first place they head to the dealership. The reason being is because Jeep dealerships are incredibly convenient. They have trained staff to answer any questions, they have a large inventory of new and used Wranglers and other Jeeps for you to check out, and you can even take your favorite ones for a test drive. Additionally, you don’t have to pay cash at the dealership, they will help you finance the Wrangler of your dreams.
But, there is always a but. All of this convenience and pampering comes at a cost. Dealership prices are often much higher than you will find from other sources. If you are looking for a quick and easy car buying experience and don’t mind paying a bit more, then a dealership is a fantastic option for buying a Jeep.
Craigslist has been around for quite some time now. For those who don’t know, Craigslist is a website that you can buy and sell pretty much anything in your local area — even Jeeps and Jeep parts. You can jump on, type in the location you want to search and filter by how far you are willing to drive to buy your Jeep and voila! Hundreds of Jeeps in your area that are for sale by owner (and by dealerships if you don’t filter them out) show up on your screen. People will often tell you the mileage, how it was used, if there are any aftermarket parts, and other important information you might need to know about the Wrangler you’re looking at.
The drawbacks for Craigslist are it can take a bit more time. You have to search through and find what you are looking for, then take the time to meet the person and make sure the Jeep checks out. Most of the time, you also have to pay for the vehicle outright, in cash. However, some banks will loan you the money if the car is new enough and they think that it is a worthwhile investment.
Facebook Marketplace is relatively new and hasn’t had the same time to develop that Craigslist has had, but it has blown up in popularity. That’s because pretty much everyone and their dog (literally) has a Facebook. When you sell on their platform, you can get significantly more eyes on your Wrangler, sell it faster, and potentially for more. Depending on your area, there will be different quantities available and much like Craigslist, you can set how far out you are willing to drive to buy. Facebook Marketplace makes it convenient to see more Jeeps, and easily contact people through Facebook Messenger. With methods like Craigslist, you can sometimes struggle to contact the seller because it is up to them to provide contact information.
Since the platform is newer, there are still a few kinks and glitches in the experience. Also, it is bringing in people who are inexperienced with buying and selling things locally. So there can be some hiccups and misunderstandings while Marketplace is still in its infancy.

Friends and family
One of the best places to buy a Jeep in our humble opinion is from your friends and family! The reason being is that you know exactly who you are buying your Jeep from. You know if they beat up their cars and drive them like crazy people, or if they baby their Wranglers and treat them with love and respect. Also, when you buy from friends and family, it’s often a win-win situation. You help your loved one find a good home for their beloved Jeep, and if you are nice, then you can even grant them visitation rights from time to time! As a bonus, they may even throw in their Jeep door storage and Jeep top lift.
However you choose to buy your Jeep, the most important thing is that you take the time to find the Jeep Wrangler you really want. Don’t jump at the first one you see from pure excitement, take your time to find the right Jeep for you.
